Google AdSense earnings taking a drastic cut

What is Google AdSense?

AdSense can be defined simply as an ad serving program conducted by Google. This program can be used by all website owners to facilitate various kinds of advertisements - textual, images and most recently video advertisements on their sites. Google monitors all these ads and generate revenue either through pay per click or pay pr impressions models.

Google utilizes its search technology to serve ads based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. All those advertisers who wish to promote their products through Google sign up through Google AdWords. At present AdSense has become extremely popular as the advertisements do not interfere with the other programs like the other banners and generally the ad contents are much more appropriate to the website.

The revenue generated from AdSense comes from an AdWords program which follows a somewhat difficult and complicated payment system – one that is based on a Vickrey second price option in which it commands an advertiser to present a sealed off proposal that cannot be seen by any of the other competitors. Moreover, for any given click received, the advertisers pay only one bid increment above the second highest bid.

Google Click Fraud

Though AdSense has been instrumental in generating handsome revenue for a lot of advertisers, off late it has been observed that its earnings have taken a drastic cut. What is the reason for this outcome? The primary cause for this is Google AdSense click fraud. Click fraud can be defined as the process of clicking on advertisements for the purpose of costing the advertiser money - that means generating revenue by creating false leads. It is a big scam and most of the website owners are aware of this menace. This is a serious problem and needs to be addressed immediately. Most of the web hosts offer access logs which need to be handed over to Google as well. The access logs help Google to monitor any fishy action happening in your site. Remember this is a complicated and serious problem and it is best to co-operate with Google and help them to solve it. Possessing a click monitoring software is also very effective. The best part about this software is most part of this is free. Once the relevant data is gathered, the website owners must hand them over to Google for inspection. You as a website owner must also take some responsibilities – examining the server logs very carefully and looking for any suspicious activity. If any such thing comes to your notice, please do not delay and inform the Google authorities immediately for necessary action. To be on the safer side you can even disable advertisements for your own IP address and local geographic area. This step will not make Google mistake another user as you. It is advisable to put your AdSense disabled on pop ups and pop unders; ensure that your advertisement do not appear on sites that promote illicit and illegal activity. If you have mistakenly clicked on your own ads, be honest and confess to Google. Google will help you if they see that you are interested in fighting this problem with them. It can even give you suggestions on how to avoid click fraud. Be very careful. Do not get caught in Google Click Fraud.
